Steps to Get Your Texas Learner's Permit
and Driver's License

Step One: DL-92 Request Form

There are a few things that need to be done prior to beginning this course. The first thing you will need to do if you haven't already is to apply for the Parent Taught Driver Education Program through the DPS. You will need to fill out a DL-92 and send in $20. Please allow up to 3 weeks for your instruction packet to arrive from the DPS. If it has been longer than 3 weeks you must contact Texas DPS directly.

Step Two: Obtain Your Instruction Permit

Once you receive your packet from Texas DPS you may begin instruction. You and your student will begin the course by carefully reviewing the "Introduction to Virtual Drive". Your student will now take and complete Module 1 in its entirety. Full completion of Module 1 guarantees that your student has taken the 6 hours of instruction time needed to apply for the Instruction Permit. Your student must pass the written and vision examinations at the DPS office before issuance of the Instruction Permit

Step Three: Obtain Your Driver's License

The Instruction Permit allows you to now begin taking Virtual Drive of Texas concurrent learning program. Your student will begin by starting on Module 2. The course will prompt the student to alert the instructor when it is time to take a behind the wheel lesson. The Parent Disk 3 guides the instructor through this process. Once your student is 16, has held the permit for 6 months, and has completed this 32 hour in class program and the 14 hours of behind the wheel training, he/she is eligible to apply for an unrestricted Driver License through your DPS office. Because our course is approved, your student will not be required to take the written or driving test administered by the DPS. The Virtual Drive Certificate of Completion is proof that these tests were taken through the course.
