Most Expensive Toll Roads in the US

Toll roads are often loved when there’s heavy traffic on the road, but hated when taken accidentally. They are hated even more when they, for some reason, become the only way to access certain areas.Do you think the toll roads you’ve taken are expensive? You may be wrong! Here’s a list of some of the most expensive toll roads in our beloved country. Check to see if the one that’s haunted you is on it!

  1. 17-Mile Drive, CA, 54.4 cents/mile: Located on the Monterey Peninsula, this road links Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach. This road will link between each spot with no tolls in between, but it will cost $9.25 for a single car to get on this road. In addition, motorcycles are not allowed on the road.
  2. Fort Bend Parkway, TX, 53.3 cents/mile: Built near Sugar Land, TX, this road is about 7.5 miles long and costs $4 to get on. The parkway leads people to the Sam Houston Tollway, a larger road that circles the entire downtown Houston area.
  3. Chicago Skyway, IL, 51.2 cents/mile: Just as its name states, the road is located in Chicago, IL, and connects I-90 with the Indiana Tollway. At about 7.5 miles in length, it costs $4 to get onto this toll road. An interesting fact about this road is that it is a tall bridge, reason being toll roads were not officially allowed within Chicago when it was built in 1958.
  4. Delaware Turnpike, DE, 36 cents/mile: The Delaware Turnpike is an 11-mile road in the state of Delaware that connects the Baltimore and Philadelphia areas together. The value of this road is extremely important, so as a result, it costs $4 to get onto the road in either direction.
  5. E-470, CO, 33.0 cents/mile: This is a 47-miled road located on the eastern side of Denver. It has 5 toll stations that are evenly spaced between each other and it costs $3 to pass through each individual toll station.

Did You Find Your Road on the List

As mentioned, the above 5 are the most ridiculously expensive roads in the US! The worst part is that the next one on the list only costs about half of that of E-470 per mile. However, if your road is not on the list, do you feel better now? Just remember to keep the roads on the list in mind when you travel to these areas. Stay safe!

I loved taking Virtual Driver Ed Instructor. Not only was it simple to use, but it was also easy to understand. I couldn't believe how fast it was and I had no problem receiving my certificate of completion. I strongly suggest using this program.

Virtual Drive was fast, fun, and easy to use. I didn't think driver's education could be so convenient. Being able to start and stop whenever I needed to was a big plus. I would recommend this to anyone trying to complete driver's education!

I found the course to be full of new additional information I needed to be current on my knowledge of new laws and procedures. Additionally I feel it would not be a bad idea for most people to take this course as a brush up from time to time.

- Kathleen A.

My son Adam was the one who took the course. He has some significant learning disabilities and this course was an outstanding option for him. He was able to do it at his own pace which was a tremendous help.

I just wanted to say that Virtual Drive was awesome! Especially with me being a busy mom going to school and stuff was hard to go into actual classes. Thanks, Kevin!
