Opening in the correct Browser
- Close everything else out, Insert Disk 1. If the program tries to automatically start hit the X in the upper right hand corner to close.
You Do Not need to be on the internet to start program.
- Open your ‘My Computer’ window. This can be accomplished either through your desktop or through the “start” in the lower left corner of you computer.
- Locate you CD Drive: In the ‘my computer’ window, on the right hand side of the window, it will say ‘devices with removable storage’. Underneath this, you will see your CD drive, you might even see a ‘little red car’ and/or the words VDT… or VDA…
Note: this drive must be a CD drive or a combo DVD/CD drive, not a DVD drive.
- RIGHT CLICK on the ‘red car’ or CD drive and go down to open and right-click on open. This will open the CD like a folder so you can take a look inside.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and locate the file called ‘Start.html’
Note: this file will be named ‘INDEX’ on the parent CD (disk #3 green)
- RIGHT-CLICK on the ‘start’ file, and go down to where it says ‘open and has an arrow(->)’.
- Go to the bottom of the next box and where it says ’choose program’ and click on ‘choose program’ (either a right or left click will work)
- When the new box opens up, highlight ‘Internet Explorer’ and check the box at the bottom that says ‘Always use this program to open this type of file with.’ .
Note:
If you do not have internet explorer on your computer go to www.microsoft.com and download the latest version
- Click OK in the bottom
- The program will begin to open up, Continue to Solution B

Allowing Active Content
- As the program begins opening:
- Does a box appear as that says ‘Active content can harm your computer …) – click YES to this question
Otherwise: go to next bullet.
Note: Active content allows the student inputs and mouse-clicks to be recognized and responded to by the computer program. Security systems warn about active content because ‘arbitrarily downloaded software’ from the internet may have other things hidden in the software. Do not worry, you have purchased Licensed Driver Education Software. )
- Does a box appears that says ‘To display this page you need a browser with javascript’: Do not close this box simply Continue to the next step
- Along the top menu bar (where it says: File Edit View Favorites Tools Help ) go to Tools and then down to ‘internet option’.
- Select the Tab on the far right called ‘advanced’
- Scroll all the way to the bottom
- If you back up just a little bit from the bottom you will be at the start of the Security section.
- Does the first box under security say:
- Allow active contents from CD’s to run on my computer?
- Check this box (if not already)
- If box is already checked, just click OK at the bottom to exit
- Click Apply in the bottom right hand corner of the box
- Then click OK at the bottom to exit
Continue to C if this is first time setting up
Else
Continue to D
- Check for publishers certificate

Setting Text Size
- Along the menu bar (where it says: File Edit View Favorites Tools Help ) go to View
- Select Text size
- Make sure the setting is at MEDIUM or lower
- Click OK at the bottom of the box.
- Go to D if you are setting up the course for the first time.
- Otherwise Go to area where you were not seeing the entire test and see if It is corrected?
- If Yes Go to D
- If Not:
- Minimize all windows on the screen
- Right Click on the open desktop and go down to properties
- Select the Tab on the far right call ‘Settings’
- Move the slide bar for ‘screen resolution’ to the left at 800 X 600
- Select Apply
- If screen asks you if you want to keep settings select YES
(you can always slide it back later)
Maximize back your course window and you will be able to read all of the text |

Getting from the user agreement to the Main Menu
- Determine Where you are at:
- Your screen says ‘To display this page you need a browser with javascript’
AND
You have already checked the ‘Allow active content box’ from step B. You will need to close this box out now and re-enter the program
You are at the User Agreement
- Scroll to the bottom where it says Accept and Decline
- Select Accept. A new window should open up and take you to the Main Menu
- If a new window does not open up and you hear a ‘bloop’ sound, you have a pop-up blocker.
- Either:
- Disable the pop-up blocker
- Or Hold the Ctrl Key down WHILE clicking on the item. (this will override a pop-up blocker for one click)
- If a new window opens up but all it says is
‘Be Courteous and Safe’
- Close window, Repeat Step A Replacing the Start.html file with the file ‘modulemenu.html’ file and open it with internet explorer.

Disabling a pop-up blocker
- You have a pop-up blocker. Either:
- Or Hold the Ctrl Key down WHILE clicking on the item.
(this will override a pop-up blocker for one click)
- Disable the pop-up blocker
- From along the menu bar (where it says: File Edit View Favorites Tools Help )
- Go to Tools
- Go down to internet options
- Select Privacy tab
- Uncheck the pop-up box at the bottom
If this does not fix your problem you need to reinstall Adobe Acrobat. Continue to Solution F: |

Downloading Acrobat Reader OR Internet Explorer
- IF you are in Disk #1
- From the Main Menu, Select Introduction
- Select Program Requirements
- There are links there for both Acrobat Reader and Internet Explorer.
- If you cannot open the Disks yet.
- From any browser, go to
- www.adobe.com for Acrobat reader
- Follow instruction: make sure to click RUN instead of Save so that the program updates immediately
- www.microsoft.com for internet explorer
- Follow instruction: make sure to click RUN instead of Save so that the program updates immediately
